The Saucier Family - Page 3
Pictured below are the baptismal records for the two sons of Louis Saucier and his wife Marguerite Gaillard, Charles and Jean Baptiste Saucier born in Quebec in 1672 and 1674.
The Canadian Baptismal Record shown above for Charles Saucier, the first born son of Louis Saucier and Marguerite Gaillard records his name as “Charles Saucier”. He was baptized on September 1, 1672 at Notre-Dame de Quebec Church in Quebec City. The record is from the Parish register of Notre-Dame-de-Québec, Québec, Québec, Canada. Baptêmes, Mariages, Sépultures 1621-1679
The Canadian Baptismal record shown above for Louis Saucier and Marguerite Gaillard’s second born son, Jean Baptiste, also shows only "Jean Saucier" and no middle name, but it is generally accepted that his full name is "Jean Baptiste". He was baptized on December 4, 1674, the day of his birth at Notre-Dame de Quebec Church in Quebec City. So this leaves us with the question: was this the normal way the priest at Quebec recorded names in the church records, using only the first name and surname, or was it just an oversight on the priests part?
