In the 89 page file with his application Jacques states “He enlisted in Captain Denson Bond’s Regiment of Volunteers in November of 1815 and that company became part of Villeau’s militia Regiment during the War. In the application he states he served a period of 60 days in that company when he was sent by his captain to New Orleans in January of 1816 with his Schooner “Vernice” to obtain supplies for his command and while he was in New Orleans on said commission, General Andrew Jackson pressed him into service and he was engaged in the Battle of New Orleans on the 4th and 8th day of January 1816, when about 30 days later in February he returned to his command in Shieldsborough and was discharged about six months afterwards.” His application was signed and witnessed by James M. Mattheny and Theodore Dedeaux. At the time of his enlistment in the military, Jacques would have been around thirteen years of age. In 1877, after a lengthy battle dating back to 1874, to receive a pension, and all the letters from numerous fellow soldiers of the era who served with him testifying he had served with Villeau’s militia Regiment along with them, he was denied a pension for his service which he attested was a true and accurate account of his military service in the War of 1812.
